The Eiffel Tower, stands like a watch tower high above the capital. Light yet very strong, the most parisian of monuments was erected by Eiffel for the 1889 exhibition. At the time, it was the tallest building in the World. The Tower is 300 meters high and, from the top, the horizon is 80 kilometres away on a clear day.

Since 1910 the Tower has become an international time signal station. Its huge aerial has been of considerable help to broadcasting. The Tower is the birthplace of French Broadcasting, and there always has been a station at the Tower since 1918.
