Palais Royal
The Palais Royal, once the residence of Cardinal Richelieu, has now been
taken over by the Conseil d'Etat (Council of State). The gardens are designed
in the pretty 18th century style. When Louis Xlll died his wife Anne of
Austria, and the youthful Louis XIV, lived there until 1652.
Later the Regent gave famous dinner-parties in the Palais Royal. Philippe
Egalité ordered Architect Louis to build a number of mansions with
covered walks and shops in the grounds. One ought to visit the Cour d'Honneur
(the Main Quadrangle) and the covered walks. Colonnes de Buren.
